For furniture that may be moved or assembled on site, threaded inserts and bolts are often more practical than repeatedly driving screws into the same holes.

All fasteners should remain below the surface, and no sharp screw ends should be exposed beneath the desk.

Add the Monitor Shelf

The monitor shelf should be positioned after checking the actual screen height.

When seated, the user should be able to look at the monitor without constantly tilting the head upward. A shelf that is too high can cause neck discomfort, while one that is too deep may reduce the available desktop space.

If the shelf also carries speakers, reinforce the supports and check for vibration.

Plan the Cable Management

Poor cable planning can make a studio desk difficult to clean and maintain.

Useful features include:

  • Cable holes behind monitors

  • A tray under the desktop

  • Openings between equipment sections

  • Clips along the rear frame

  • Space for power adapters

  • Removable access panels

Power strips should remain accessible. Avoid sealing cables permanently inside the desk because equipment may need to be replaced later.

Place frequently used items close to the seated position. Heavy equipment is usually better placed on a lower supported shelf than on a narrow raised platform.

Test the Desk Before Finishing

Before applying the final surface treatment, place the main equipment on the desk.
