An electric standing desk may need to be reset after a power interruption, uneven leg movement, overload protection, control-box replacement, or an error message on the keypad.
There is no universal reset sequence for every desk. Some models reset by holding the down button, while others require two buttons to be pressed together. The manual supplied with the control system should always be checked first.
Remove anything that could block the desk as it travels downward.

Reduce the load on the desktop. A desk that is carrying more than its rated capacity may stop again after the reset.
Inspect the power cable, control-box connections, handset cable, and motor plugs. A loose connection can look like a calibration problem.
Many electric desks use the following basic procedure:
Move the desk toward its lowest position.
Continue holding the down button after the desk reaches the bottom.
Wait for a small downward or upward movement, a beep, or a reset message.
Release the button only after the movement has stopped.
Test the desk through part of its height range.
Some systems require the desk to be unplugged briefly before this sequence. Others display “RST,” “RESET,” or another code before calibration begins.
A common height-adjustable mechanism manual instructs the user to hold the down control at the bottom until the table moves slightly and returns upward, which reinitializes the system. Other controllers use the up and down buttons together. The exact sequence must match the installed control box.
First check whether the handset is locked. Some keypads disable all movement when a lock symbol or dashed display appears.
Next, check whether a lower travel limit has been programmed. A stored limit may stop the desk before it reaches its mechanical minimum.
If only one side moves, stop using the desk. Repeated operation can twist the frame or place uneven force on the desktop. Confirm that both motor cables are fully connected before attempting another reset.
The meaning of an error code varies by manufacturer.

Motor communication failure
Uneven leg position
Collision protection
Excessive operating time
Loose cable
Control-box fault
Power interruption during movement
Do not repeatedly press buttons without checking the manual. Some desks have a duty-cycle limit and need time to cool before they can move again.
A standing desk can appear to have an electrical problem when the frame is physically obstructed.
Inspect whether:
The legs are installed in the correct direction
The crossbar is square
Screws have been tightened evenly
A cable is trapped between moving parts
The desktop is touching a wall
One foot is sitting on an uneven surface
A drawer or accessory blocks downward movement
If the frame was recently assembled, compare it with the installation drawing.
A manually adjustable student desk does not normally have an electronic reset. Its height is changed through preset holes, telescoping tubes, screws, pins, or another mechanical structure.
For these desks, the correct procedure is to:
Remove the load from the desktop.
Loosen or remove the adjustment fasteners.
Support both sides of the desk.
Move the frame to matching height positions.
Reinstall and tighten every fastener.
Check that the desktop is level.
Both sides must use the same height setting. An uneven frame can rock during writing and place unnecessary stress on the fasteners.
Electric sit-stand desks are common in offices, but schools often need simpler furniture that can serve several age groups with less maintenance.

Resetting usually means returning an electric desk to its lowest reference point so the control system can recognize both lifting columns correctly.
Begin with cables, load, and obstructions. Follow the exact manual for the installed controller, and stop when the two sides do not move together. For manually adjustable school furniture, focus on matching mechanical height positions rather than using an electrical reset method.
